i just wanna a suggestion…
why not if our SCA try to organize a chess league (such as Sabah Chess Allegro)..a tournament per month (or dwimonth) at different places (sandakan,lahad datu, etc.)..lastly we will have a final league at the end of the year(maybe only for top 30 from the allegro – named Sabah Master or what else)
we will see how exciting our rating system is.
maybe hard to do…but we have SCA right??

Now is the time to bring changes to SCA for the sake of Sabah chess player. There should be a monthly fixed schedule or annual tournament schedule so that all chess players would be motivated to go far in chess. Rated tournament like Sarawak Open recently should be organised in Sabah. We don’t want SCA to be a money making organisation. Look at Indonesia..they got 1000 chess set/ books contribution from their x-collonial Dutch government due to their commitment in Chess. I do believe we also can do that as long as we continuosly promote chess in sabah with active tournaments.Sponsor is the second matter as we have lots of millionaires in Sabah who r willing to contribute and it dont cost much to organised tournaments even rm300 for the winner is also acceptable because I do believe chess players not playing chess for money but for their names..

Thank you for the constructive comments. We should acknowledge the fact that every one of us would like to see chess progress in the State and that why I have decided to return to lead the Association last year after relinquishing the post 10 years ago with the hope of infusing new blood with new ideas to the Association.
The New Committee would like to bring back “chess spirit” in the late 80s and early 90s where we have at least one fund raising and one State level tournament per annum. There are weekly chess events and at least one chess tournament per month.
This will definitely takes times especially to win back the heart of those chess enthusiasts who may have slowly cool down over the years. Likewise it takes time to reactivates their interest and love for the games of chess. Let us put our Sabah Chess Association’s house in order before moving into the next step.
Based on past experience nothing can prevent the Association from organizing weekly chess events provided that there are strong supports and needs from members. As of now we need to do membership drives to get more active members to support all chess activities being organized by the Association. Secondly the Association has to organize fund raising campaign to fund its activities.
Thirdly Sabah Chess Association needs member who are willing to scarify their times and efforts to develop chess and are not motivated by self interest and financial gains from chess activities. Bukan senang mo cari sponsors utk mengadakan semua benda yg dicadangkan oleh Mr. Shahrin. Kebanyakan sponsors hanya ‘pok famous’ saja dan mau ‘gain’ dari aktiviti yg dia kasi jalan (bah manada sponsors yg tida mau itu kan) Semua usaha memerlukan MASA dan DANA. Masalahnya, bukan semua urang kita ada benda tu.
Syukur lah ada ni Sabahchess.com, ini satu usaha suda ni.

SCA really need a member that REALLY committted to the Association and NOT ABOUT THE MONEY. To make it work.. members are required to work together… I dunno what will happen next… But my suggestion, please dun be a committee if you are not really committed or no time for this SCA.

Gecko, ngam tu ko sakap… lol.. tiada guna mau tukar2 president kalo org bawahan tidak support. Sebenarnya, org buta pun buli nampak apa masalah SCA sekarang… tak tau la. Tingu apa jadi election nanti kekeke..

Hmm… mgkin ada yg msih nda tau, apa yg sebenarnya berlaku dalam SCA?.. Pada sya ckup jelas SCA cuma ingin cari keuntungan semata melalui pemain… Dan hanya pndai mengaburi mata peminat catur disabah.. KATA SELALU TIDAK DIKOTA.. lebih2 lg dgn trend yg TELAH diamalkan sejak TURUN TEMURUN iaitu MENUKAR SYARAT SESEDAP RASA.. contohnya apa yg berlaku dgn pmain yg mewakili sabah baru2 ini ke NATIONAL CLOSED 08.. kononnya dijanjikan TIKET mewakili negeri… tp akhirnya pmain terpaksa menggunakan WANG SENDRI UTK MEMBELI TIKET FLIGHT.. pada saya senang crita, KLAU TAK MAMPU KATAKAN TAK MAMPU, jgn hanya menjual air liur dgn JANJI2 PALSU.. sedangkan pihak SCA hanya berminat MEMAKAN YURAN PENYERTAAN PEMAIN yg mengikuti SABAH CLOSED.. SELAIN DGN TREND MENGAMBIL PELUANG DGN INISIATIF ORG LAIN.. contoh yg pling senang, tempat penganjuran SABAH CLOSED 08 hanya menumpang dgn usaha org… TP DRI SNDRI TIADA BUAT APA PUN.. SEDIH & MENYAYAT HATI DGN PERSATUAN SNDRI…

Mr Magic, tiket mmg percuma untuk Sabah Closed baru2 ini dan hanya dua orang sahaja yg layak mendapat tiket tersebut, cuma tempat tinggal dan makan sahaja kena tanggung sendiri. You can ask Charles or David Chin about this.

Hhmm… Nampaknya sdh ada org yg faham masalah dlm SCA.. Harap dpt dilakukan sesuatu utk memajukan kembali sukan catur di sabah… Kalau tidak silap saya, pemain sabah suatu masa dulu adalah antara yg terbaik di MALAYSIA. Tp sekarang antara negeri yg hampir KEPUPUSAN pemain catur. Memang betul kata Archie, sebelum keadaan bertambah buruk elok SEMUA mengambil PERANAN masing2.. Untuk pihak SCA, ATITUDE adalah penentu sesuatu KEJAYAAN… So, BERFIKIR LA DI LUAR KOTAK.. JANGAN HANYA BANGGA DENGAN CERITA2 LAMA SEJARAH PEMAIN SABAH… CUBA DEKATI PELAPIS YG KIAN MENINGKAT.. SELAMATKAN MEREKA SEBELUM TERLAMBAT… SEMOGA BERJAYA…. SABAH BOLEH!!

Hehehe.. website pun sudah buat.. byk lagi kami kena buat.. contohnya.. rating.. tapi… kerjasama tu tiada.. inilah masalah dia… minta tu mau duit.. minta ini mau duit.. maka.. satu committee. Hehehe.. tidak apalah.. saya sudah dapat tu program rating system as well as tu pairing program. Cuma tinggal study rating system ja… I dun think that is a problem for me to learn

Assalamualaikum n hi semua.Pakabar semua?Sia ni dah lama tlibat catur n minat catur.Teringin jg nak ikut tournament tp always not in the right time when the game start.Sia tertanya2 juga knapa SCA slama ni mcm tak aktif aja.Rupanya cam tu plak.Bginilah aja,kami kat sandakan pun tgh atur nak tubuh satu comittee utk kendalikan program catur d sandakan ni.Harap2 menjadi kerana bg saya apa yg penting setiap org yg terlibat dlm satu2 comittee (catur)’Jangan dipolitikkan’ sukan yg kita minati ini.Jika dipolitikkan maka kucar-kacirlah perkembangannya seperti mana politik negara kita sekarang.Bg yg anggap dirinya PENCATUR SEJATI bjuanglah dgn ikhlas demi Catur Sabah.Hidup Sandakan…Nantikan Sandakan Open slewat2nya hujung tahun ni…Insyaallah…

Hello semua,
1st congratulation to the new president and of coz the new commitee. As far as I remembered (back in 1990s when I was still active in chess) the president now was the one who helped bring glory to sabah chess (time david chin boleh main utk malaysia ke Olimpiad). He did a commendable job considering the very limited fund (and remember this is a volenteer job). I remembered that he did not seek re-election in the last AGM at MAKSAK house (mid 1990s) to pave the way for new faces. Some familiar old hardworking commitee members who are equally hardworking and trustworthy are now back in the SCA again.
So please give a chance to the new SCA management team. Kalau ingin melihat catur sabah maju marila kita sama-sama support SCA dan juga komite yang baru, jangan pandai kutuk saja. IT IS VERY HARD TO BELEIVE THAT ADA ORANG YANG SANGGUP KUTUK “COMMITTED PEOPLE” YANG INGIN MEMBANTU PERSATUAN YANG MEMANG SUDAH TENAT, padahal kommitee baru ini belum lama pegang persatuan. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT SEBELUM INI PERSATUAN SUDAH HAMPIR MAU MATI..ATAU BARANGKALI SUDAH MATI… Anyhow I don’t blame the old commitee, remember!! this is a volunteer job AND I am sure the old commitee ada kekangan (constraint) mereka sendiri. SO WHILE MR.MICHEAL KIMIN GUNTILI AND HIS COMMITEE MEMBERS ARE STILL IN HIGH SPIRIT TO REVIVE SCA AND SABAH CHESS GLORY, PLEASE GIVE SOME ENCOURAGEMENT, AND NOT TO DISCOURAGE THEM WITH NEGATIVE REMARKS. If you cannot contribute your hard-earned money and golden time for chess development in sabah, I am sure constructive suggestion and positive words of encouragement will do.

I thinks i can get sponsors for organizing the tournament.. but work together with me. all will be paid handsomely like the arbiter etc etc..and all the small problem not a problem..
hope that can light up a bit ..chess in sabah..but who can i talk to?
